Rules and Statutes

In order to ensure fairness and transparency, a set of rules have been developed with guidance from the Constitution. Click below to access the rules.

Gazetted WSU Statute

The WSU statute is based on The Higher Education Act, 1997 (Act No 104 of 1997), which regulates higher education and provides for:

​

  • The establishment, composition and functions of a Council on Higher Education;

  • The establishment, governance and funding of public higher education institutions;

  • The appointment and functions of an independent assessor;

  • The registration of private higher education institutions;

  • Quality assurance and quality promotion in higher education;

  • Transitional arrangements and the repeal of certain laws; and provides for matters connected therewith.​

Sections 44 to 52 specifically provide for matters pertaining to Convocation. Section 52 of the statute, in particular, outlines the code of conduct for members of the Convocation.
